If you’re spending time in California on Lake Shasta or just passing through Lakehead and you’re looking for some great food then stop in at Klub Klondike, just off I-5 exit 704.  Klub Klondike is an historical watering hole and restaurant.  Walking through the door is definitely a step into the past as much of the interior is original.  Klub Klonkide

They have plenty of parking and some of the best ribs you’ll ever sink your teeth into! Of special note to truckers, there is a truck turn around just past Klub Klondike so, if you’re coming up on having to break for your log book you might stop in and fill up.   Our daughter is the Queen of rare Tri Tip steak ah-la Leon…something she craves during the winter when we aren’t down there.  They have some wonderful b-b-q chicken too.  Plus while I’m not a big bean eater I love Lynn and Leon’s baked beans.  They always serve more food than I can eat and those beans are wonderful with scrambled eggs in the morning before hitting the lake.

 Leon Womack’s 45’s

On Saturday nights you’ll be treated to some amazing singing by Leon Womack (yes it is who you’re thinking of) and the Boogie Bears.  They put on a great show and on rare occasions you may find rock band tour buses out front and rock music blaring until the wee hours.  If you’ve good timing and the fiddle player is in and you enjoy bluegrass, ask for the Orange Blossom Special, it’ll blow your socks off!

Don’t be fooled though this is a family friendly restaurant, kids are welcome.  They have the best karaoke system in the area (IMHO) and locals and tourists alike have fun.  The food is great and reasonable in price.  Don’t want to eat out but still don’t want to cook?  Call in your order as you head off the lake and drive down to pick it up (530)238-2009.

Theme nights are Taco Tuesday, Meat Loaf Wednesday and Steak Friday plus all the regular food too.  Counting what you eat?  They have lighter salad meals as well.  If you’re looking for a cold one after a long day on Lake Shasta, tell them I told you to order a ‘Leon’s Freon’.  It’ll quench that thirst!

Lynn and Leon have made many improvements since they bought Klub Klondike and it continues to be a work in progress for them, so stop back in from time to time, watch the renovations and enjoy those ribs with Leon’s special rub.  This is one place to add to your list of ‘things to do and places to visit’ when you’re at Lake Shasta.

Klub Klondike is at 21375 Main St., Lakehead,CA 96051.  You can email them at klubklondikeca at (@) att dot (.)  net   Great food if you’re visiting Shasta Lake California and a fun place as the sun goes down.
