Oregon boaters are require to carry the boater education card or you risk a ticket.  This is the starting year that you need to carry the card with you.  If you are 70 and younger you must carry the card when operating powerboats greater than 10 hp.  This includes personal watercraft (jet skies), dinghies and sailboats under power.

The Oregon State Marine Board reports, more than 30,000 registered boat owners still do not have the boater education card as of the January 1st deadline.  This is not hard to get.  It’s only a one time fee of $10, you fill out an application and take a classroom or Internet course or pass an equivalency exam at your local sheriffs’s office.  Class prices range from free to $45, for on line course and application, “click here”.

Be sure to get and carry your Oregon Boaters Education Card, the ticket for being without it is $97.
