Washing your boat, particularly if you’re on the water, may become a federal offense. If you have a water ballast in your boat you may not be able to empty them. Does your bilge have water in it? That too could be a huge issue. All of the above could make boating much more difficult if you haven’t bought the proper permit from the government. If you don’t get in comments soon on H.R. 2550 and S. 2067 you may find yourself in deep water.

The Recreational Boating Act of 2007 , provides recreational boats with a permanent exemption to the permit requirement. It now has 70 co-sponsors in the House and 12 in the Senate, thanks to many of us who’ve contacted our representitives.

If we don’t get our comments in on this issue even that little dingy will need a permit. So, heads up boaters and click here to read more and find the links to get you where you need to be.
